Pisgah Trail Maintenance - Saturday, October 10, 2009

Doug Gaudet, Brent Hunsinger, Ed Fletcher, John Herrick, Wendy Jacobs and Tucker, John Hudachek, Bob and Nancy Miller and Huey, Matt Edson and Ginny Knapp and Belle met at the Kilburn Trailhead on a beautiful fall morning.  We cleared the Arther D. Little Research Company building foundation and storage site areas to allow easy hiking and viewing for the Story Circle hike to be held Sunday, October 25, 2009.  We also improved the trail on both sides of the site.

Friends of Pisgah Annual Picnic - Saturday, September 19, 2009

Our Annual FOP Picnic was held at the Visitor Center on 520 Old Chesterfield Road in Winchester, NH starting at 11:30 am.  A good time was had under beautiful, sunny skies!  Hotdogs and hamburgers expertly grilled by John Herrick were enjoyed along with soda, water and coffee.  Many brought their favorite dish (salad, beans, dessert) to share.

John Herrick, Matt Edson, Kathy Thatcher, John Hudachek and Wendy Jacobs met at the Kilburn Trailhead.  We replaced the old Friends of Pisgah Kilburn Trailhead mailbox with a fancy bulletin board made by Matt Edson.  We then cleaned some culverts on the road to Kilburn Pond and cut and replaced logs crossing a swampy, muddy area on the south western side of the Kilburn trail.  On the return to the Kilburn Trailhead we cleared a trail diversion around a muddy hole in the trail and opened a view to Kilburn Pond.  Although the skies were grey and drizzly it was a

Pisgah Trail Maintenance - Saturday, August 8, 2009

John Herrick, Ginny Knapp and friend Peter meet at the Kilburn Trailhead.  We cut and replaced logs crossing a swampy, muddy area on the western side of the Kilburn trail.  Then we walked up the Davis Hill trail, had lunch on the top at the vista, walked along Baker Pond and then past the dynamite bunkers and returned to the Kilburn Trailhead.  It was a very nice day and great walk.

Pisgah Reservoir Kayaking - Saturday, July 18, 2009

We gathered at the Route 119 Ashuelot parking lot with our kayaks and those lent to us by Summers' Backcountry Outfitters.  It was a beautiful July day and after loading all the kayaks and people into 4 wheel drive trucks we headed up the road to the Pisgah Reservoir.  Once on the Reservoir we enjoyed the sunny, blue skies while kayaking around the Reservoir.  We had lunch on a small island and several enjoyed swimming off large rocks.

FOP volunteers John Herrick, John Hudachek, Ginny Knapp, Matt Edson and Wendy Jacobs meet at the Kilburn Trailhead.  We drove up to the FOP Dort property on Route 63 in Chesterfield.  Once there we mowed the upper portion and dug up a large stump with a backhoe.  Using clippers and chain saws we cleared an area of brush, logs and stumps that expands the area that can be maintained using a brush hog.

FOP volunteers John Herrick, John Hudachek, Ginny Knapp, Laura Susmann and Wendy Jacobs meet at the Kilburn Trailhead and proceeded to drive up to the Horseshoe Trailhead.  Rakes and a madock were used clear out and drain water bars and ditches on the Reservoir Trail.  Also many ATV ruts were raked smooth.  We bushwhacked from the Reservoir Trail vista down to Lily Pond.  Future repairs to the Lily Pond Trail were assessed.

FOP volunteers meet once again at the Kilburn Trailhead.  We cleared Pisgah Ridge trail from the Kilburn connector through the Pisgah Reservoir overlook down to the “elephant rock”.

Friends of Pisgah volunteers met with the Chesterfield Conservation Commission members at the Kilburn Trailhead.  Two groups headed out to clear the trail toward Mount Wantastisquet.  One group cleared from Kilburn Trailhead over Bear Mountain to Plain Road observing spring flowers such as trillium.  The second group started at the Plain Road Trailhead and cleared up Daniels Mountain.
