Krister Raasoch, David Weisel, Bob Miller, Ray Dunn, Chana Robbins, Reg Fleming, Abe and Gabe Howe, John Hudachek, John Herrick, Kim Nilsen and Howard Weiss-Tisman from the Brattleboro Reformer met at 10 am on Saturday, November 16th on the Dort property that lies just to the northwest of and borders Pisgah State Park along Route 63.  The goal of the day was to complete the raising of a rustic three-sided lean-to on the Dort property that is owned by the Friends of Pisgah.

The Friends of Pisgah had already erected a composting latrine at the lean-to site.  A source of water is close by and access to Pisgah trails is nearby, as well.  Concrete piers to support the lean-to were erected by volunteers the previous month.  The previous Saturday the lean-to floor was laid and timbers to support the roof and walls were erected.

With the help of John Herrick's tracter and Krister's pickup the roofing studs, metal roofing and tools were moved half a mile into the forest up to the site.  Work started immediately to cut and nail the siding and cut, notch and install roof timbers.  After lunch the metal roofing was cut and attached.  Gabe helped by hand sawing, nailing, driving screws and taking pictures.

About 3:00 the structure was declared complete!  It had been a beautiful, warm, sunny November day and it was a pleasure to be out in the woods working.  All celebrated and admired their work before picking up tools and heading back down the hill to their vehicles.
